Radegast 1.20 Released

Update: Due to the bug [RAD-160] which prevented starting normal IM session from friends console, the release was repackaged with the fix included and re-numbered to 1.20.

Radegast version 1.18 has been released.

This release adds many new commands to the Radegast command interface. Try typing //help in the main chat console once you are logged in for a list of supported commands. It is now also possible to chose from many more grids to login at startup, edit your profile, eject and ban people from your parcels and more. Hopefully this release will solve problem where people logged in with Radegast would under some circumstances appear not to wear any clothes, as well as several other bug fixes. MakeAiml Plugin

Folks interested in A.I. and who find the built-in ALICE bot too limited for their needs, should check out Grant Dryden’s MakeAiml.

MakeAiml is a free utility program made to simplify the creation of large AIML files by hand. It’s intent is to allow an A.I. programmer (botmaster) to spend more time thinking about how an artificial intelligence should think and respond than the markup language surrounding the responses.

MakeAiml now comes with a plugin which enables editing and testing of AIML files from within Radegast. The plugin can be downloaded from MakeAimls’ downloads section.

Radegast and The New Linden TPV Policy (updated)

After this blog post many have been asking if Radegast is compliant with the new policies, and will they be able to connect to Second Life after April 30th. This is just a short note that Radegast is fully TPV Policy compliant, and that its users will have no issues connecting to the Second Life grid once its enforcement begins.

Moreover Radegast was submitted for approval for listing in the official TPV directory. The application is still pending, but we hope that it will appear on that list shortly.

Radegast 1.16 Released

Radegast version 1.16 has been released.

Several new features, and continued work on improving stability. Radegast now has a plugin manager which allows plugins to be dynamically enabled and disabled. It also enables on-the-fly compilation and  loading of C# source code plugins. Hopefully this will enable some interesting work on creating new features that can be added as Radegast plugins.

This release also features a couple of important accessibility improvements, both in terms of navigation and improvements of the speech plugin.

Radegast 1.14 Released

Radegast version 1.14 has been released.

Some of the highlights of this release:

Radegast 1.12 Released

Radegast version 1.12 has been released.

Highlights of this release: it  ships with the Speech plugin (thanks Mojito for the great work on it!) and features improved keyboard shortcuts in hope it would improve Radegast’s accessibility. Lots of new and improved functionality, for the complete list see release notes below.

New version numbering

Last released version of Radegast is 1.9, and we are moving to a scheme where releases will have even minor version numbers to avoid problems with update checker. Since we have already used 1.10 in development, the next release will have version number 1.12. Version numbers are cheap, after all!

Radegast 1.9 Release

Radegast version 1.9 has been released.

This release features improved user interface that minimizes the number of floating windows, packing them all neatly into tabs. It also includes support for playing parcel music streams, which for now works on Windows and some Linux systems, we will be working on improving Linux sound support in the future releases.

Radegast as a Platform

Since the first release of Radegast, just a few months ago, some interesting things have happened. Douglas R. Miles came up with the idea of using Radegast as  platform. He added IRadegastPlugin programming interface to it, and we already have a few interesting plugins in development.

opensim4opencog - the first project to utilize the plugins interface.

The goal of this project is to develop an interface to Opensim for OpenCog and other AI systems. It provides a means of connecting external AI bots over a socket to an avatar in the OpenSim Simulator. It uses TextSL as base and updates it to use libopenmetaverse, and includes DotLisp and a simple task queue processor as a persistent middle layer.

LookingGlass Virtual World Viewer – now comes with a plugin interface which allows it to be started from within Radegast and use it’s GUI, while in turn Radegast gets 3D world rendering.

The LookingGlass Virtual World Viewer provides a modular framework for a client viewer of virtual world systems. LookingGlass is written in C# and licensed with a BSD license. The current version has a communication module that talks Linden Lab Legacy Protocol (“LLLP”) which is compatible with Second Life(r) and OpenSimulator. A rendering module exists which uses the Ogre3D graphics engine. Of course, other communication and rendering modules will be added in the future.

Radegast Speech – is a plugin that aims at making virtual worlds more accessible. It uses speech synthesis and recognition which allows users to hear what is going on in a virtual world, as well as participate by using voice commands.

It’s been exciting to see how these plugins showed up from independent developers in such a short time. Our aim is to produce documentation that will make it easier to use Radegast as a platform to interface with virtual worlds, and hopefully even more plugins will show up in the future.
